Please Note: The switch used with this kit is not a good choice for aesthetic domestic applications as it is a surface mount device and sticks out from the wall. It also requires that the wiring is run through it.
As an alternative, please see our elegant wireless remotes that come with our kits. They can be located anywhere, and you can have more than one for multiple control points, without running wires to them.
You've seen how handy our window blind and shade systems are, now you can use the same safe, low voltage technology to power this actuator to open and close your windows.
The stroke is fixed at 12 inches (300 mm), but you can also special order it for a shorter length.
The opening/closing force before obstruction is sensed is approximately 60+ lbs (27+ kg), current consumption is ~2 A, protection class is IP32. These units have been stress tested to over 3,000 openings.
If you are planning to use this for a skylight opener, note that you can check the force required to open the skylight by standing on a bathroom scale and pushing up on the skylight with a long broom handle or other suitable pole. If your skylight is heavier than the actuator capacity, you can offset the extra weight with gas shocks, torsion springs or external counterweights.
PLEASE NOTE: Window and skylight openers can be dangerous to children and adults as they normally have a considerable amount of force that is used to draw the window closed and provide security. There is more than enough force to crush fingers of small children and/or cause injury to adults, pets, or other animals.
The linear chain actuator pushes straight out from the fixed housing which lines up unobtrusively with your skylight frame, fastened in place with mounting screws. Attach the end of the chain actuator to the window with two screws, connect the wired wall switch control wires with the provided connectors, plug in the power supply and you're done!
The wired wall switch controller can operate about 4 of these simultaneously (you'll need a 12v battery or bigger power supply); it is NOT compatible with our multi-channel blind and shade RF remotes.
The wired wall switch can also be interfaced to a building automation system using 2 relays (up/down).
Use it to control the motion of anything you want, including windows, greenhouse vents, skylights, etc.
PLEASE NOTE: Whether it is blind motors or window/skylight openers, you do not need to be concerned with high voltage shocks because these units are operated on a low voltage of 12v DC (no shock hazard), using an AC/DC power supply (or 12v DC battery). It is good practice to connect your AC line as close to the 12v DC motor as possible, and to keep the DC line as short as possible, using at least lamp cord (16 gauge) wire for the 12v DC line. You can also use your car battery to test them.
