Hi @fogyreef, it sounds like you have a defective remote, although that is very unusual.

You can check the operation of the battery motors by pressing the setting button on the blind motors. Once the motors have been programmed, the setting button acts as a toggle switch to test the motors. Press and release once, and the motor will go in one direction. Press and release again, the shade motor will stop. Press and release again, and it will go in the other direction.

If they don't move, it probably means the batteries are dead and need to be charged. In either case, please contact me via the contact form and we'll replace anything that has failed under warranty. Here is the contact form:

Also, re question about remote memory, the remotes have no memory, it's the motors that have the memory, so the short answer is "as long as you like".

Good Morning @treimche,

Thanks for your messages, sorry if it seems we are slow to respond. Please note that we are on Pacific time here, and the office isn't open until 8 am. At that time we start going through the overnight email that has come in.

We did receive the email you sent, and one of our tech reps will be in touch with you shortly.

Hi, I would not expect those brackets to be perfectly compatible with our motors. You may have to drill a few holes and mount our (smaller) brackets inside of those. I would suggest you wait until you have everything at hand to decide the best approach.

Hello, I would say that an exact retrofit that works perfectly is unlikely. You may have to use our supplied mounting bracket and screw it into wall or bolt it to the existing bracket. We have had thousands of customers do this quite successfully, with perhaps some modification/adaptation required.

If you buy a motor to try it out, if it doesn't work you can return the motor, provided it is in 'as new' condition.

Hi, I expect that means their controller can't provide the extra bit of current our motors require as ours have generally more lift capacity than the Automotion originals. I never expected that to be a disadvantage!

Anyway, sorry for your trouble, we'll refund the unit for you.

Hi, ok, please let us know as we have never seen this problem before. It may be that they have a new system that only works with their motors. Most of our customers have reported that they won't sell just the motor replacement, it has to be the complete shade.

Hi, I forgot to mention the procedure; please send the return request via our contact form:

http://RollerTrol.com/contact-us

By the way, did you contact the support group at Automotion? It might be worth doing that to figure out what the problem is, since the motor works fine when connected to 12v.

Hi, I've got to think it is something to do with their control system; the only solution may be to bypass it and deliver 12v power directly to the motor. If you use our radio motors, you can have a wireless control on the dash (or wherever). We'll be happy to exchange it if you want to go that route.

is it the same motor? If not, the draw may be different. If you put an ammeter in series on the direct battery connection where it works as expected, you should be able to see and measure the difference in current draw ...

this is assuming there is some kind of current limiting circuitry on the switch that is used normally ...

Hmmm, well, if you see 12v briefly without the motor connected, then it disappears, I would say you may have found the problem. I have never seen a 12v circuit shut off like that unless there is too much current being drawn (never for too little).

You could try bypassing the 12v source entirely, at least to get it working while you figure out what the other problem is about.

Hi @freightguy, if the motor works in both directions when you connect it directly to the battery, this would indicate that it is working properly. I would suspect that it is jammed or overloaded somehow. If you remove it from the tube and it works when it is still connected to the actual switch you are going to use, this is very likely the case.

But I am also wondering about the multimeter test. If it drops from 12v DC to zero while power is applied, there could be some kind of circuit breaker on that 12v circuit that senses that too much current is being drawn (especially if the motor is jammed somehow).

Hello, did you see the instructions that show how to do that in the Vera interface?

Hi @lacoleman, there is no preferred route, it's just a matter of routing so you can still close the housing properly and not interfere with the operation.
